Thy Tribute Bring is a fantasy based on themes from John Goss’s 1869 hymn Praise my Soul the King of Heaven and was written as the finale for Foden’s 2018 Brass in Concert programme.

The opening three-note ‘Praise my Soul’ motif in horns and tubular bells leads to the initial presentation of the hymn before the music energetically drives forward, supported by the florid counter melodies and a rhythmic bass line.

There is a minor presentation of the theme during which the intermittent percussion line attempts to frustrate and hinder the flow of the music before a calm and reflective slow melody, based on an inversion of the melodic line ‘to thy tribute bring’ is heard in solo cornet.

The music concludes with a triumphant and rousing restatement of ‘Praise my Soul’ echoed throughout the band leading to the glorious final climatic chord.
