John Barber

John is Principal Trombone with the world famous Foden's Band, a position he has proudly held since being appointed to it in 1996.

Having undertaken the joint course run in conjunction with the RNCM and Manchester University, he has subsequently performed with the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Raymond Gubbay Orchestra and the Welsh National Orchestra whilst non-orchestral playing includes performing with Elton John, Rod Stewart, Liza Minelli, The Gypsy Kings, Paul Anka and with Gloria Estefan on the X-factor.

John has been the trombone tutor to both the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and is presently Director of the Love Music Trust, the lead partner of the music education hub in Cheshire East.

In 1997 John studied for an MA in composition and arranging at Salford University with Peter Graham and Robin Dewhurst and has written for many different ensembles and soloists. Highlights include writing and arranging the multi-award winning 'Memories of Christmas' album featuring Foden's and Matthew Ford, commissions for the NSO Symphony Orchestra, Southern Counties Youth Band and writing and arranging the Foden's 2018 World of Brass gala concert at the Sage, Gateshead. His compositions and arrangements have been played in many countries around the world.
