Andrew Stevenson

Andrew started playing cornet at the age of eight. Pursuing music through his school career, he was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. He attended the Royal Northern College of Music studying cornet under Richard Marshall and Roger Webster. Whilst studying, Andrew played with the Foden’s Band. Following university, Andrew joined the Royal Air Force as a full time musician. He spent three years in the Band of the RAF College, playing trumpet, cornet and guitar in various ensembles and as a featured soloist on the RAF’s Massed Bands tour. In 2018 he left the trade to commission as an Officer and train to be an RAF Pilot.

Andrew started composing at the age of sixteen for his A-level Music and it soon became a much loved hobby. He has had works commissioned by a range of ensembles, most notably Foden’s Band, Desford Colliery Band and the Royal Air Force Music Services. In 2015, Andrew composed the set test piece for the Intermediate Section of the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. As well as writing for ensembles, Andrew has also composed music for a range of soloists.

Andrew was ‘composer-in-residence’ with the Foden’s Youth Band and also the Thoresby Colliery Band.
